Of our 2,297 guests through May 31, 2008:
81% were families with children, while 19% were single persons,
46% were children under 18,
73% were minorities (including 48% Alaska Native),
28% were beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority,
9% had physical disabilities,
57% were female, and
43% were male.
34% of all bed nights at Safe Harbor have been provided for beneficiaries of the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority.
Since it opened on November 9, 2001, the Safe Harbor Inn has been full with a growing waiting list. Every day, all 55 of our rooms are occupied by at least 120 guests - half of them children under 18.
The average length of stay to date is just 96 days. Motel operations have been smooth and peaceful, and 8 of the 11 staff are former Safe Harbor guests.
